VP of Engineering

As a VP pf Engineering, you will be responsible for performing all aspects of personnel management for your team. This role will lead alongside  the three pillars of our organization: Project Management Organization (PMO), Infrastructure and Security, and our Software teams.

A keen eye on operational efficiencies, maturity in documentation and process, as well as building automation into our DNA. You have experience building and leading e-commerce/development teams that can scale, be fault tolerant, secure, and extensible in rapidly changing environment. A keen eye on microservices and SOA are paramount to success as are the ability to leverage cloud computing judiciously to meet our HA, DR and scalability needs.

Management:
  • Manage our software development team, coordinate activities with our PMO and build solutions alongside our Infrastructure & Security and our QA teams
  • Foster, Build and Maintain the concept of a single team across our organization
  • Manage and own the review process, hiring and disciplinary actions as needed
  • Align G&A budgets and provide accurate forecasts
  • You must be a great team player who thrives in a fast-paced dynamic environment with an exceptional sense of time and priority management
  • Manage, coordinate and ensure predictability across our Technology organization for feature releases and larger scale integrations
  • Manage and build out a Production Support team to escalate and resolve site issues
  • You will be the central voice in analyzing our current team, structure and roles to help prioritize new hires and make significant decisions in team shape and size
  • Release Pipeline- Manage release schedules, environments and resource management to ensure that our efforts are aligned within Technology and across the business
  • Steward our move to continuous integration and deployment efforts
  • Budgeting Responsibility for technology services related expenditures (opex/capex), planning and maintaining G&A for full-time and contractors and future budgeting
 
Technical Hands-on Expertise:
  • Ability to break down complex concepts and communicate these in easy to understand concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Simplify application architecture and design, build solutions that allow flexibility without overdesigns, to ease development work, ramp-up and future maintainability
  • Build reusable frameworks that can be leveraged by future projects
  • Leverage a deep understanding of web design principles and technical capabilities to focus on how to understand consumer behavior and operational processes to drive efficiency across the organization and develop and integrated technology roadmap
 
Communication:
  • This is an essential role requiring you to be a significant figure head and spokesperson for the entire Technology team
  • Collaborate with Design, Marketing, Merchandising, Architecture and Development teams to create, garner buy-in and execute our Technology and Infrastructure roadmaps
  • Work all parts of our organization to develop focused strategies, that align various goals, and timelines while building rapport to get buy-in and acceptance
  • Effectively communicate project status, highlight successes, champion the team and work on removing obstacles with all business partners.
  • Work building operational excellence from Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), solid requirements and technical specifications that allow the team to scale and minimize the total cost of ownership of our solutions
 
Technology Champion:
  • Stay on top of best practices, evaluate our competitive landscape and maintain a roadmap to consistently build these processes and technology improvements into our daily work
  • Focus on enhancing our ability to continuously build, test and deploy, using proven cloud strategies to provision and scale our systems seamlessly on-premise or in the cloud
  • Optimize development practices, standards and introduce tools to increase awareness, surface issues more quickly and focus on quality throughout the SDLC process
  • Help evaluate and implement newer technology: Search, packaged e-commerce solution, EDI, PCI solutions (tokenization), Security, Caching (document and object), Distributed Data Stores, API management and lots more
  • This role may be for you if you have:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, engineering or related discipline required
  • 10+ years of experience in software development and management of high volume enterprise systems focused on e-commerce
  • 7+ years building high volume Java/J2EE web applications using modern design, patterns and architecture along (full-stack experience a plus)
  • Experience installing, customizing, supporting and managing e-commerce package solutions (WebSphere Commerce, Hybris, Oracle ATG, etc.)
  • Experience working as a consultant across a wide variety of industries and technologies, preferably 1 of the top 10 IT consultant firms as we need someone who is not only well trained, but has a proven track record in environments that have high client demands, juggling multiple priorities, consistently producing high quality deliverables and someone who inherently knows the rigor needed to meet and exceed expectations.
  • 7+ years of leadership experience managing company-wide programs requiring extensive collaboration between various distributed engineering groups
  • Multiple projects where you have managed off shore resources, a big plus
  • Proven experience solving challenging problems with data and quantitative approaches; breaking down high level goals into actionable activities that are testable at the feature level
  • Must have a proven track record of working with senior and C-level executives
  • Extensive experience in ROI calculations, TCO reduction, and budgetary responsibilities
  • A proven maturity in the management of cloud based technology and computing, scaling up/down
  • A deep set of experiences bringing automation: environment provisioning, build/release, functional, performance and capacity testing
